Loveland Fence Company is a fence company in Loveland that builds and repairs fences for houses in town and for bigger lots out toward Berthoud, Campion and Masonville. We measure the line, give you a written price and build it with one crew.

Loveland's Unified Development Code sets how tall a fence can be and what it can be made of, and the rules are different for front yards than for backyards. We check them for your zone and lot before we quote, and we have utility lines marked through Colorado 811 before anyone digs.

Loveland's Fence Code in Plain Words

Fences in Loveland are covered by Section 18.04.07.06 of the city's Unified Development Code, which was updated in 2023 with new fence height setbacks. The limits depend on your zone and on which yard the fence is in.

In short, fences in the front yard are held lower than fences behind the front of the house, solid front fences are held lower than open ones, and chain link generally isn't allowed in front yards. Behind the house, a standard privacy fence height is allowed in most residential zones.

Loveland measures fence height from the finished grade right under the fence. On a slope, it is measured at the middle of each section, and a berm or mound under the fence counts toward its height. That matters on the rolling lots west of town, so we measure the way the city does before we set a single post.

Fencing for Bigger Lots and Open Ground

Not every Loveland fence is a backyard privacy fence. Around Campion, Masonville and the edges of Berthoud, lots run bigger and owners want to mark a line, keep dogs or horses in, or frame a driveway without blocking the view.

Split rail and other open fences suit that ground. They cost less per foot over a long run, they let wind pass through, and they can be lined with wire mesh to hold dogs. See split rail fencing.

Our Process

  1. Tell us about the job

Call or use the form. A rough length and fence type is plenty to start.

  2. Measure and check the code

We walk your line, note slope and gates, and check Loveland's limits for your zone.

  3. Written price

Materials, height, gates, tear-out and haul-away, all on one quote.

  4. Locates

Colorado 811 marks public utility lines. We contact them at least two full business days before digging.

  5. Build

Posts first, then rails, boards or panels, then gates. Most home fences take one to three days.

  6. Final check

We test every gate and latch with you and clean up.

Loveland Fence Questions

Does Loveland limit fence height?

Yes. Section 18.04.07.06 of the Unified Development Code sets limits by zone and yard, with lower limits in front yards. We confirm the limit for your lot before we quote.

How is fence height measured on a slope in Loveland?

From the finished grade under the fence, at the midpoint of each section. Berms under the fence count toward the height.

Can I put chain link in my front yard in Loveland?

Generally not. Chain link is limited in front yards, so most owners use picket vinyl, wood or split rail there and chain link in the back.

How deep do fence posts go here?

Larimer County uses a 30 inch frost depth for footings. We set end, corner and gate posts deep enough that frost doesn't lift them.

Do you call 811 before digging?

Yes, on every job, at least two full business days ahead. 811 doesn't mark private lines like sprinklers or a line to a shop, so point those out to us.
